SUMMARY

The groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds and related areas in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.  The groundskeeper is responsible to the Assistant Director of Grounds.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mow lawns, trim hedges, prune trees, seed and fertilize. Use sprayers to spray weed killer in flowerbeds, sidewalks, and drives.

Edge around walks, drives, buildings, and stationary equipment.

Perform routine preventive maintenance to grounds equipment and make minor repairs as required.

Plant shrubs, flowers, grass, and trees as appropriate to enhance the campus landscape.

Water flowers and plants as required.

Remove leaves, paper, and other debris from the campus landscape, walks, and drives.

Remove snow and ice from campus walks, drives and streets as required.

Perform moving and hauling and special set-up functions as required.

Patch campus roads and drives when instructed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

THIS POSITION IS CONSIDERED AS ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL AND MUST REPORT TO WORK DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER AND CAMPUS EMERGENCIES.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent.

Some knowledge of grounds work.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Ability to meet the eligibility requirements for coverage by Salem College’s automobile insurance policy.
