The study of Modern Languages improves your chances to get a job, allowing you to become more competitive in career choices, and preparing you to succeed in our increasingly globalized economy. In addition, the study of different cultures enables people to gain a better understanding of their own culture and to have less prejudices toward people from different ones. Skills in a second language enhance your chances to obtain a job in medicine and health related careers, law, government positions, technology, military, marketing, while they also open the door to learn about art, music, philosophy, fashion, cuisine, and so much more!
At Salem College, we offer a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, and we also offer French courses for the General Education Requirement. Our new Spanish for the Health Professions concentration prepares students who are interested in pursuing a career in any health related profession. You can take it as a concentration within the Spanish major, or as a minor.
If you are interested in acquiring a second language or in improving your skills in Spanish or French, please contact Dr. Ana León-Távora for advice about language placement, course planning, and other opportunities.
