Mission

The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Salem College is committed to building an inclusive campus community. The Office works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to cultivate a climate of awareness, understanding, respect, and inclusiveness for all individuals and groups. The Office designs and supports programs and initiatives that seek to ensure fair and equitable treatment for Salem College’s richly diverse community.

Goals

  • Design and implement critical cross-cultural initiatives and programs that promote the celebration of diversity and social justice, while increasing the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to realize and sustain an inclusive campus community.
  • Provide advising, advocacy, and support regarding diversity and inclusiveness for a broad range of student groups, clubs, and organizations.
  • Organize and facilitate ongoing diversity and inclusiveness training, workshops, and dialogues for faculty, staff, students, and administrators that will impact both the campus and the larger community.
  • Work with admissions offices and student support units regarding the recruitment and retention of both traditional-age and adult students from historically underrepresented populations.
  • Participate in the assessment of institutional processes related to persistence and satisfaction of students, faculty, staff, and administrators from historically-underrepresented populations.
