Our coaching minor helps fill a void in women’s leadership roles in intercollegiate athletics. Prior to the passage of Title IX in 1972, more than 90 percent of all coaches and athletic directors of women’s programs were female. Today that number falls to 42.6 percent of coaches, and even lower numbers for athletic directors, trainers and sports information directors.

Our coaching minor was developed to  prepare women to inspire and teach students through the world of sport.

Courses in the minor will include the sociology of sport; philosophy and fundamentals of coaching competitive sports; care and prevention of athletic injuries; and an internship in coaching.
