To register your PC on the campus network you need to have either wireless capability or access to a wired Ethernet connection (provided in most residence halls).  If you want to use both wired Ethernet and wireless, you must register on each method.

Wireless Registration: To register on the wireless network make sure that you are in an area serviced by wireless on campus. These areas include the Refectory, Student lounge, Babcock common area, and various outdoor sites around campus. If your laptop supports wireless, you'll typically see a "bubble" near the system tray indicating that wireless networks are available. Click on the bubble and Windows will display the wireless networks that are available. Highlight SalemStudents and click on connect. Windows will warn that the network is unsecured and reaffirm that you want to connect. Once you connect, bring up a web page. This first attempt may result in an error on your web browser or bring you to the registration screen. If you receive an error, ignore it and attempt to go to a website like Yahoo or Google or some other popular site. At that point, you should see the registration screen. Enter the requested information, and submit. You should receive confirmation that your PC has been registered. It will also let you know that a reboot is required. Restart your PC and you are finished

Wired Ethernet Registration: You will need access to a live Ethernet connection. You will also need an Ethernet cable (10 feet in length or longer is suggested). Plug the cable into the Ethernet port on the wall and into your PC. You typically will see lights illuminate near the port where you plugged into your PC. Usually you will see a solid green link light which signifies that the PC "sees" a signal from the network. You may also see a blinking amber light which indicates activity on the network. Open your browser and attempt to bring up a web page. As in the wireless example, this first attempt may result in an error on your web browser or bring you to the registration screen. If you receive an error, ignore it and attempt to go to a website like Yahoo or Google or some other popular site. At that point, you should see the registration screen. Enter the requested information, and submit. You should receive confirmation that your PC has been registered. It will also let you know that a reboot is required. Restart your PC and you are finished.

If you have any problems with the registration process, contact the IT department using one of the following methods.
