Student Services

Personal Growth/Counseling Services
The Counseling office provides a safe, compassionate, and confidential environment for the exploration of a student's personal concerns. Throughout the year, workshops on personal growth are also offered. They may focus on such topics as stress management, alcohol and drug abuse, sex, eating disorders, and relationships. Counseling Services can be reached at 336.721.2625.

The Writing Center
The Writing Center is a place where all Salem students may go for free and individualized tutoring in writing. Staffed by a team of Salem students and faculty, the goal of the writing center is to assist students in all areas of writing, including each step of the writing process helping students become better independent writers.

Health Center Services
The Salem College Heatlh Center is located in the Basement of Clewell Residence Hall. The Health Center provides care for acute and chronic illness, information and education on women's health issues, identification of health risks, and referrals to off-site specialists.

Clinic Hours
The office is open Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30
Health Care Provider Sick Call: Monday-Friday 8:30-11:30 and 1:30-4:00
Physician's Clinic: Tuesday and Friday by appointment
Appointments can be made by calling X2713. Walk-ins will be triaged and seen at the discretion of the health care provider. For emergencies after hours, students should contact their Residence Hall Director or call Public Safety at X5555.

Charges
Routine visits to the Health Center are free of charge to all RESIDENT students. Limited laboratory testing and medications are also available at no cost to the student. The student IS responsible for any lab, x-rays, and prescription medications that are not provided by the Health Center.

Public Safety
The Department of Public Safety is located beneath the back porch of Main Hall. The office is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing protection and services to the campus community by highly motivated, experienced public safety officers. The emergency number for the Public Safety office is (336) 917-5555. This number can be reached on campus by dialing 5555 from any campus telephone.

Hire-A-Salemite
Students interested in making extra money can sign up to do part-time work for alumnae and friends in the community, from baby-sitting to yard work can sign up for the Hire-A-Salemite program sponsored by the Salem College Alumnae Association.
