The Office of Career
Development and Internships supports and challenges students along their
exciting journey of self-exploration, career research, decision-making,
goal-setting and planning. Our focus is on empowering women to become their
own career guides rather than relying on others to do so for them. Students
will learn through one-on-one counseling, workshops and experiential tasks such
as internships in order to prepare for their careers after Salem. In this
constantly evolving world of work, the office of Career Development and
Internships will strive to prepare students for creative and productive lives
as women who are life long learners and leaders.
Success
After Salem is achieved in a variety of ways. Available programs include:
Jobs Board
Announcements for available jobs and internships are posted on the Career Development Jobs Board. Students can search for full time, part time, local, regional, or national jobs and internships. There are also links to helpful job search websites and events of interest.
Individual Counseling
Students who would like assistance in defining their career goals, selecting
a major, identifying internship opportunities, applying to graduate
school or developing job seeking and interview skills may schedule an
appointment.
Testing and Assessment
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Campbell Interest and
Skills Survey (CISS) are available to students to assist them in their
career planning process. A new program called DISCOVER has just been added to the assessment resources at the
career center. This online program can help you explore career areas based on
questions asked regarding interests, abilities and values.
Career Workshops
A variety of career-related workshops and programs are offered each
semester including topics such as resume writing, job seeking, interview
skills, preparing for graduate school, graduate school essay preparation,
choosing a major, creative ways to spend your summer, etc. Workshops
on specific topics are available upon request.
Salem Signature Program
Career development is integrated into this four-year program through
ongoing support/resources and classroom presentations.
Mock Interviews
Employers rate interviewing skills as one
of the top criteria they use to judge applicants. Whether applying for a job or
graduate school, students can hone those skills by practicing them in a
professional setting with either the career center staff or corporate
volunteers.
NACELINK Connect NACElink Connect is an online, national job board for college students looking for all types of employment, including full-time and part-time jobs, internships, cooperative education positions, and volunteer and summer work.
