The Salem undergraduate experience begins with your life on campus. You'll enjoy getting to know classmates from a variety of backgrounds and cultures while together you study, work, have fun and enjoy the special sisterhood that arises from residence life.

Residence Life at Salem comes under the supervision of the Dean of Students' office. We are here to help you with your questions, assist in the planning of events and address any issues or concerns. Our goal is to provide a safe environment that promotes your emotional, spiritual, intellectual and cultural growth while encouraging social and physical activity within the residence halls and campus-wide community.

Who We Are
Leslie Rogers, the Director of Residence Life, may be reached at (336) 917-5451 or leslie.rogers@salem.edu; her office is located on the second floor of the Shober House.

Residential Coordinators (RCs)
The Residential Coordinators are Salem College staff members who live in the residence halls. The RCs' role is to holistically support your academic and social success by connecting the residential experience with cognitive and personal development. The RCs will challenge and support you and fellow students through practical application of college student-development theory.

Resident Assistants (RAs)
The RCs supervise a trained staff of student leaders called Resident Assistants (RAs). The Residence Life staff strives to provide programming and events that help you to connect your classroom learning with their living environment. RAs also provide programming aimed at developing you and your fellow students socially and building community within the residence halls. RAs are an additional resource for academic, personal and social concerns.

Desk Workers
In Babcock and Gramley Halls, trained student workers operate a front desk located in the lobby during evening hours. The front desk area serves as the information center of the hall. Supervised by a student Desk Manager, this staff is present to assist you with checking in your guests, community development and programming in the lobby areas. Additionally, snacks and toiletries can be purchased at these areas.

Programming
Each residence hall plans events and programs that are specific to the community in the building.  These programs range from fostering social interaction and development to educating residents about multicultural awareness and life skills. From dance parties and ice cream socials to service projects and leadership training, residence life is sure to provide social interactions that appeal to many personalities and interests.

Visitation weekends are granted to residential students to invite guests to campus for overnight visitation.  Upperclass students will have visitation weekends twice a month on weekends designated by the Director of Residence Life. First-year students will have extended visitation weekends approximately once a month.
