The following is an estimated schedule of the presidential search process
Phase 1 – Following initial surveys to Salem's major constituent groups, the search consultants held 20 on-campus dialogue sessions with individuals and groups representing the Board of Trustees, Board of Visitors, alumnae representatives, staff, faculty, and students. The input from these sessions will assist the Search Committee in approving a position description for prospective candidates. This description and other relevant information will be posted on Salem’s websites, the Coleman Lew website, and on key educational media in early January.
Phase 2 – During the months of January and February 2014, Coleman Lew will proactively recruit and interview potential candidates. Based on the interviews and due diligence, Coleman Lew will present the Search Committee with a recommended list of candidates for further screening. The Search Committee will then determine the composition of the short list of 6-8 potential candidates to take into Phase 3.
Phase 3 – The Search Committee will conduct face-to-face interviews with the 6-8 semifinalists and will then select three finalists. Until the finalists are chosen, the names of all candidates will remain completely confidential. The three finalists will be invited for campus visits and will have the opportunity to meet members of the broader Salem community. After these visits, the Search Committee will make its recommendation to the Board of Trustees with a goal for the new president to take office at or near the beginning of July 2014.
