SCDC (originally Dansalems) was founded in 1957. We have a long tradition of providing a dance outlet for students. The company is a student organization that is under the advisement of Heidi Godfrey, Assistant Professor in Dance.
The purpose of SCDC is to provide an appreciation of dance, to develop creative ability, and to provide the opportunity to perform and choreograph. We emphasize Modern dance, but students may explore various forms. We perform at many campus events and present our own concerts in the Fall and Spring. We also attend the American College Dance Festival each Spring.
New members audition each semester, and officers are annually selected.
We meet for our mandatory company class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m-2:15 p.m. Student Choreographers also hold rehearsals throughout the week.
SCDC is a fantastic experience. You will gain many friends, a new appreciation for dance, the pleasure of performing and creating, and a deeper connection to who you are. You may also receive credit for one term of physical education for being in SCDC the entire academic year. You must have no more than 4 absences and perform in both Concerts to receive credit.
