Performance Opportunities

Musicians make music! Performing the best literature is central to the education of a musician. Here are some of the possibilities at Salem:

Weekly Performance Forum

Student Recitals

Choral Ensembles – The Chorale and the smaller, select Chamber Choir’s concerts include the Halloween concert and the traditional Candlelight Christmas Service.

Symphony Chorale – Students may perform choral/orchestral works with the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorale.

Instrumental Ensembles – Performance of literature for larger instrumental ensemble. Available through Wake Forest University’s Band or Orchestra. Salem students may play in one of the instrumental ensembles at Wake Forest University, only ten minutes from Salem. Each year, more than 20 Salem students play in the Wake Forest Marching Band. Others participate in jazz or pep ensembles, or the orchestra. Interested students should contact the Wake Forest University department of music at 336-758- 5364 for audition, schedule, and other information on these ensembles.

Piano Ensemble – Peformance of four-hand literature for one and two
pianos.

Chamber Music Ensemble – Performance of chamber music from the
standard repertory.

Theater – Salem produces a play and a musical each year. Director
Bobby Bodford is an experienced professional with Hollywood credits,
including costume design for Angela Lansbury in the television series
Murder, She Wrote.
