Jon Julian

Jon Julian

Jonathan Julian received his Bachelor of Music in Clarinet as a student of Robert Listokin, and his Master of Music in Chamber Music/Bassoon as a student of Mark Popkin, from the North Carolina School of the Arts. He also studied with Detalmo Cornetti of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Italy, and Carl Nitchie, the Principal Bassoonist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Julian is a former Solo Clarinetist of the Tactical Air Command Band.

He played as principal clarinetist in the Winston-Salem and Greensboro Symphony Orchestras. He was a Principal Bassoonist in the US Army Ground Forces Band, US Army Europe Band. Bassoonist, US Navy School of Music Faculty Woodwind Quintet, Virginia Beach Pops Orchestra, US Army Ground Forces Band and US Army Europe Woodwind Quintets, Artwood Winds Plus. Currently Julian is the Principal Bassoonist of the Piedmont Wind Symphony, Salisbury Symphony Orchestra.

He also performs with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, and the chamber ensembles OpusFive and Melange. He has played as principal bassoonist with the Charlotte and Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestras and Carolina Chamber Orchestra, and as bassoonist with the Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem Symphonies and the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra.

Julian teaches bassoon at Salem College, Wake Forest University, and North Carolina School of the Arts Summer Session. He also teaches bassoon and clarinet at NCSA and Salem College Community Music Schools, at Jackson's Music Store, and privately. Julian has also taught at the US Navy School of Music, Woodward Academy, Catawba College, and Piedmont Baptist College.
