Message from the Director

Dear Prospective Salem student,

The Salem College School of Music enjoys a long and rich history as a central part of the oldest educational institution for women in the United States. Through the Bachelor of Music degree (performance in Piano, Voice, Organ, and Flute); the Bachelor of Music in Education; the Bachelor of Arts degree (a Music major in a liberal arts degree); and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Management, the School of Music focuses on preparing outstanding women for careers in music. Students interested in additional career choices may wish to consider a major in music with a minor in another field, such as Music Theater, or a double major. Students who major in other disciplines have the opportunity to take classes or lessons in music and participate in music ensembles.

With 1000 students from nearly 30 states and as many foreign countries, Salem College is situated in beautiful Old Salem , an internationally recognized restored 18th-century Moravian village. The City of Winston-Salem is committed to the arts and provides a variety of social, cultural and entertainment opportunities. While Salem offers a creative meld of the best of music performance and the liberal arts, what Salem is best known for is personal attention from a highly professional and dedicated faculty.

Salem's School of Music alumnae go on to the finest graduate and professional schools in the country. Some continue their music studies abroad. Several have won regional, national, and international competitions in performance.

If studying music at a high professional level on a small campus located in a city known for the arts interests you; Salem is the opportunity you have been looking for! We will do all we can to help you decide if Salem is the right place for your individual talents and interests.
