A Message from Coach Handy

Welcome! This is my first year as the volleyball coach at Salem College. Just like our motto "Reach Within. Shape the future."; our focus this year is to build. My philosophy is to not yet focus on winning every match, because that will come. My focus is building this program from the bottom to the top. The current athletes have worked hard to establish expectations for the future players and this year's team is truly the foundation of this program.

Volleyball is a fun sport and I want all my players to enjoy the game within a competitive environment. However, to enjoy the game, you have to love the game. Each player is very different from the next, but their common love has enabled them to bond together and begin to build a tradition. As Salem women, they are setting a standard for future women because they not only work hard on the court, but also in the classroom.

In the very near future, the volleyball program will not be the same. Players will come and go, but they all have something in common: They all love the game and were a part of something great here at Salem College. They were a part of the volleyball program in its infant stages of the NCAA Division III process. They have their chapter in history here at Salem College and no one can change it. The new chapters are to be written by the dedicated incoming student athlete who loves the game, wants to compete, and can "reach within and shape the future."
