International Admission To Salem College
Salem College seeks women with ability, character, motivation and the intellectual potential to meet Salem's standards of performance. Salem's Admission decision is based upon an evaluation of the applicant's previous school records, including the overall Grade Point Average and standardized tests such as the TOEFL, SAT, ACT or IELTS, essay, two teacher recommendations, and a list of extracurricular activities in which the student has participated.
English Language Requirements
Salem requires a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the internet version, 213 on the computerized version or 550 on the paper test. For more information on TOEFL please visit http://www.toefl.org. We also accept IELTS testing and require a score of a 6.
Financial Requirements
All prospective international students are required by BCIS of the United States to provide documented evidence of financial resources for their first full academic year (9 months or two semesters) of study prior to issuance of the immigration form I-20 (application for F1 student status) or IAP-66 (application for J1 student status). At Salem the required amount for the first full academic year is US $29,215. This amount is based on the College's estimate of tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, medical insurance and miscellaneous living expenses. Some financial aid is available for international students; however, the college is unable to provide full scholarships.
Financial Support
Salem College is able to offer limited financial assistance to non-immigrant undergraduate students. If you and your family can partially contribute towards your educational expenses, and if the academic program you are interested in is offered at Salem, we welcome your application. Please fill out the International Application for Financial Aid and the Certification of Finances (see form downloads below). The majority of your educational expenses must be provided by you and your family. Salem cannot offer any sponsors to aid in your education. If you have specific questions or concerns about financial aid please email us at admissions@salem.edu or call 011-336-721-2621.

All International Students are Responsible for the Following:
- Keeping a valid passport and knowing the expiration date of the passport, renewing the passport in a timely manner, and bringing the new passport to the Dean of Students to be photocopied.
- Knowing the expiration date of the current visa and providing the Dean of Students with a copy of any visa renewal.
- Knowing the program completion date on the I-20 or IAP-66 and, if necessary, providing the Primary Designated School Official with a memorandum from the student's academic advisor requesting an extension prior to the expiration date. (Failure to maintain a current I-20 or IAP-66 will result in the student falling "out of status" with BCIS and therefore losing the benefits associated with the F-1 or J-1 visa.)
- Maintaining a full program of study
- Following the regulations related to employment: All international students may work on campus up to 20 hours per week. International students on F-1 visas may not work outside of the college.

Also bring copies of any medical records that are important, especially IMMUNIZATION records. All students are required to show proof of adequate immunization against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR). If you cannot show proper verification of these immunizations, you will be required to obtain the immunization here before you are permitted to register for classes.
