Salem Basketball Wins GSAC Player and Coach of the Year Awards

The Great South Athletic Conference announced their women’s basketball postseason award winners on Thursday morning and junior guard Satavia Taylor of Salem College claimed conference Player of the Year honors to highlight the list of recipients. Taylor, a do-it-all playmaker with an array of skills, edged out Agnes Scott’s Genefine Sapateh for the league’s top prize. Alexis Lee of Pine Manor College claimed the prestigious Freshman of the Year distinction while Salem College head coach, Anita Howard, earned the Coach of the Year nod after guiding the Spirits through an outstanding season.

The Salem College soccer team was one of only 88 teams in both men's and women's soccer for all NCAA divisions to earn the Team Ethics Award presented by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Soccer Earns National Academic Award for Second Straight Year

The Salem College soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 school year. This is the 2nd straight year the team has been honored with the award, which is acquired by having a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic school year. The Spirits obtained a team GPA of 3.13 last year.
