More Summer Travel for the Salem College Choirs

The Salem College Choirs are sharing their gift of music with audiences up and down the east coast this summer, as opportunities take them to Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Under the direction of Dr. Sonja Sepulveda, Salem students visited Washington, D.C. and the surrounding areas earlier in June, performing at the National Cathedral, Union Station, the Holocaust Museum, and the Virginia Museum of Natural History. While not gracing the stage, the group explored Alexandria, Georgetown, toured the Capitol, visited the National Zoo, Eastern Market, and even squeezed in a bus tour of the city!

The second summer trip took the group to Atlanta, where they were fortunate to perform three concerts and participate in a workshop. One of their concerts was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his father once pastored the congregation. It has been a National Historic Site for more than 30 years.

In July, Salem College Choirs will visit Tuscaloosa to perform with The Palmetto Voices as the guest choir at the Alabama Choral Director Association Conference. The community performance will be held at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa on July 14.

These opportunities are helping expose audiences to the legacy and vitality of choral music at Salem and demonstrating the wide range of education available to potential music students.
