Salem College Receives $265,000 in Grants

Salem College has received three grants worth $265,000.  The Cobb Foundation of Boca Raton, Florida has awarded Salem College a $50,000 grant in support of the new, college QUEST program, quantitative tutoring in math, science and technology.  QUEST began this academic year with seed support from individual trustees.  Services from the QUEST center are free to students.
 
The Cannon Foundation of Concord, North Carolina, has granted $50,000 to Salem College for the renovation of space to be used for a multi-purpose classroom/laboratory.  The space will be used by the new program in exercise science.  
 
Salem College is a collaborative partner with the local Experiment in Self-Reliance (ESR) in providing community women education in financial literacy.  The $30,000 grant to ESR from the Women’s Fund of the Winston-Salem Foundation provides approximately $10,000 for the classes to be held this spring semester on campus.
 
The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation of Atlanta, Georgia has awarded Salem College a total of $140,000 in scholarships for the coming academic year.  Scholarship recipients are from one of eight eligible southern states:  Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.  About 20 students benefit directly from these awards.
