Borrowing Procedures
A PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED TO CHECK OUT LIBRARY MATERIALS. Current students must present their Salem IDs with barcodes; other library patrons may present a valid state issued ID card in conjunction with their Salem library borrowing cards.
Items must be checked out before they are removed from the building.
At time of checkout, a printed due date receipt is given - please note various due dates.
Renewals
You can renew NC-PALS (Salem, Bennett, Greensboro, and Guilford) books that are NOT overdue by using the "MY ACCOUNT" feature in the NCPALS online catalog.
|
The barcode number on the back of your Salem ID is your UserID. Password is "changeme" (without the quotes - and until you change it). Books may be renewed as often as necessary unless they have been requested by another borrower.
Renewals are also accepted in person at the circulation desk or by emailing Anna Rainey at anna.rainey@salem.edu.
Contact Elizabeth Novicki (elizabeth.novicki@salem.edu) to request renewals for interlibrary loan materials.
Fines
OVERDUE NC-PALS MATERIALS
Fines of 5 cents per day begin the day after the due date. An overdue notice is sent via Salem e-mail the day following the due date.
Email notices are sent as a courtesy. Borrowers are expected to return and renew books on time.
LOST MATERIALS
Lost books & other materials should be
reported to the Library immediately. Borrowers who have lost library materials will be charged for the replacement cost and a non-negotiable $5.00 processing fee.
Materials not returned within 3 weeks after the due date are considered lost and the borrower will be billed for the replacement cost plus the $5.00 processing fee. At this point, the borrower's library and class registration privileges are suspended until the account is settled. Please contact Anna Rainey, Circulation Assistant, at anna.rainery@salem.edu for assistance.
OVERDUE OR DAMAGED LAPTOP EQUIPMENT
The fine for overdue laptops is $1 per hour (or part thereof).
There is a $10 replacement fee for the Ethernet cord, $20 for the mouse, and $15 for the power cord. Charges for replacing or repairing items not listed will be assessed on an individual basis.
Request Items from NC-PALS Libraries
Salem students, staff, and faculty can order books from our NC-PALS Consortium partner libraries (Bennett, Greensboro, and Guilford Colleges) directly from Salem's online catalog. Your requested items will be shipped to you at Gramley Library in approximately 5 business days, or as soon as the mail delivers them.
Watch this VIDEO or follow these instructions...
1. Open the library's online catalog ("Gramley Library Catalog")
2.
Click on the "ADD LIMITS" button
3. Find the option to "Limit By
Library"
4. Drop down the selection menu and choose "All PALS
Libraries"
5. Search for the title / author / subject
6.
Pull up the record and select the "Place a Request" link above the
title
7. Your "UserID" = the barcode number on the back of your
Salem ID
8. Leave the "Alternate ID" field blank
9. Your password = "changeme" (without quotation marks, of course)
You will be contacted by the circulation staff when your item(s) arrive. Borrowing periods follow the same policies as with Salem's materials.
PLEASE NOTE: requests cannot be placed through the catalog for items owned by your home libraries. For example, if the material you need is held in the collections of Gramley Library or the FAC Library *and* you are a Salem student, you will be expected to visit these libraries in person to obtain your materials.
Questions about the request process? Our circulation staff (721-2649) will be glad to assist you.
