September 21, 2008

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team won their 10th home game in a row today against Randolph College. Samantha Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored the only goal of the match to give Salem the 1-0 win. The Spirits outshot Randolph 38-6. Salem is back above .500 with a 4-3 record and Randolph dropped to 2-5 for the season.

Salem had several chances to score in the first half, including a penalty kick that Tatum Justice (Jacksonville, NC) kicked into the left post. Randolph's goalie, Victoria Johnson, continued to stop the Spirit's numerous attacks. Hubbard's goal came in the 60th minute off of an assist by Kim Wisen (Madison, OH). Andrea Baldwin recorded her second shutout of the season and had 4 saves on the day.

"We played our second strong match in two days today," said Coach Jay Callahan. "Randolph's goalie played the best game I have ever seen a DIII goalie play. We still need to do a better job of finishing our opportunities though."
