Verification

You may be notified after completing your FAFSA that you’ve been selected for verification. Verification is the process the school uses to confirm that the data reported on your FAFSA form is accurate. If you’re selected for verification, we will request additional documentation that supports the information you reported. Don’t assume you’re being accused of doing anything wrong. In most cases, selection for verification is a random process.

If your FAFSA application is selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education, you will receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org, or postcard from Inceptia, containing Salem College’s unique website link to start the verification process.

We encourage you to begin the verification process within 7 days of receiving notification from Verification Gateway to ensure you receive your financial aid in time for payments. Failure to complete the verification process could result in the delay or denial of your financial aid.

When will I receive this information?

The timing of when you will receive verification information will depend on whether you are currently enrolled or applying for admission. This timeline is using the assumption that we have already received your FAFSA and have been notified that you have been selected for verification. Please note: a student may get selected for verification after originally submitting their FAFSA.

  • Currently Enrolled Students – You should receive information from the School Servicing Center within a couple weeks. You will receive your financial aid award after verification has been completed (and any other required documents have been submitted to the financial aid office).
  • Incoming Undergraduate Students – You will receive information from the School Servicing Center within a couple weeks of when you confirm your enrollment to attend Salem College. In the meantime, Salem College will provide you with an estimated financial aid award so you will have an idea of what you are eligible to receive. You will receive your official financial aid award after verification has been completed (and any other required documents have been submitted to the financial aid office).
  • Incoming Graduate Students – You will receive your verification information within a couple weeks of applying for admission to Salem College. You will receive your financial aid award after verification has been completed (and any other required documents have been submitted to the financial aid office).

Steps to Complete Verification

  • Access our school’s unique website link in the email from VGCS@inceptia.org or listed below.
  • Create your account* and choose preferences for text messages and e-signatures.
  • Complete your Task List.
  • Confirm your signature and review your information.
  • Sign your account.

* If you are a dependent student, your parent will need to create their own account and complete each step.
