This exhibition of drawings, paintings and sculpture honors William Goodson “Bill” Mangum for his years of service to his students and the art community. Mangum was born in Kinston, N.C., scion of an Orange County, N.C., family. During World War II, he flew as a member of a B-24 bomber crew with the 8th Air Force in England. After the war, “Bill” studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., the Art Students League of New York and obtained an MFA in art history from UNC. He also studied and taught at the University of Florence, Italy. For 30 years, Mangum was the chairman of the art department at Salem College. He is also a founding member of ArtWorks Gallery and Associated Artists, both in Winston-Salem. He has exhibited in NYC, North Carolina and Europe.
