Due to the expansive institution of slavery, African influences are pervasive in most Latin American countries, although rarely referenced in contemporary textbooks. Salem Spanish professor Krishauna Hines-Gaither celebrates the diversity of Spanish-speaking countries and recognizes the African influences and contributions that have shaped such diversity while presenting history and culture through film clips, literature, music and interviews conducted with Afro-Latino women.
