He began his study of the organ at the age of 13 and studied with Peter Nygaard at Concordia College in Minn., where he received a bachelor’s of music degree. He earned his doctorate of musical arts and master’s of music degree in organ performance and literature as well as a master’s of arts degree in music theory pedagogy from the Eastman School of Music. He was the Wanda L. Bass chair of organ at Okla. City Univ. and has served on the faculty at Ithaca College, Binghamton Univ. and Cornell Univ. He was the first-prize winner, 2001 National Young Artists Competition in organ performance, American Guild of Organists. He has performed solo recitals in 23 states, presented numerous master classes and has recorded a CD. In addition to being on the Salem faculty he is also the Kenan professor of organ at UNC-School of the Arts.
