I. Feature Presentation: INERTIA: Remembering the Holocaust

Monday, November 23. 7-8:30 p.m.
Drama Workshop, Salem Fine Arts Center

In remembrance of the Holocaust, ALBAN ELVĚD DANCE COMPANY will present a stunning performance of INERTIA, scheduled at a time that marks the “Night of Broken Glass” or “Reichskristallnacht” (November 9, 1938).

Based on interviews with Holocaust survivors, historical research, personal reflections and her experiences growing up in Germany in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, choreographer Karola Lüttringhaus created INERTIA as an emotional response to the terrifying potential of human cruelty. As much theatre as it is dance, this hour-long performance captures the Zeitgeist of Hitler's Germany, depicting the heaviness of loss, the upheaval of relationships and the numbing senselessness of massive death.

INERTIA speaks to us all, bearing both hope and powerlessness. By looking back, it points to our future, reminding us of the ever-present need to bring light and hope into this world. A conversation with the audience will be offered after each performance.

Admission by ticket only: $12 for general admission, free for Salem faculty, staff and students. Group rates available. Visit www.albanelved.com for information on ALBAN ELVED DANCE COMPANY.
