Music performance and appreciation is enhanced through an understanding of the notation systems, vocabulary, composers, periods, structures, and formal analysis. The Community Music School at Salem College is committed to giving our students the tools necessary for not only performing music, but to appreciating, listening, creating and understanding it as well.
The Musicianship Exams at the Community Music School at Salem College consist of many very short exams related to music fundamentals, notation, theory, history, and styles. Most of these take less than five minutes to complete and can taken during their lessons. Our individual approach allows students to take them in the order that best serves their needs. At least once each year students receive certificates and awards for successfully completing exams.
