This week the focus is finishing the website translation and trying to meet with the Winston-Salem visitor’s center to learn more about tours. Part of my internship is working to have a Spanish tour in Old Salem & Garden. This meeting helped to explain the need for this kind of tour. Hopefully in the future I will be available to help out with Spanish speaking tours in Old Salem.
I visited and observed the Old Salem tour guides as they did the tour for four graders and focused in their school curriculum. In the weekly meetings with my off site faculty member we discussed the need for Old Salem to reach out to the Salem College community and become more visitor friendly.
Well this January term I have learned more about the history of the Winston-Salem community and Salem College. I translated text for many hours and spent most of my month inside a Spanish/English dictionary but it was interesting and different. I also went on many tours of Old Salem and it was interesting to see what brings people to the museum and the interactive experience that it offers. I learned so much that I believe I can give a tour in Spanish and English.
