This week was another exciting week for me at the paper. I not only made the front page for the fourth time, but made the centerpiece! That means that my article was the first article people saw on the page. The article was about members of a local church who were sending a team of 6 men to Haiti. There were three doctors who I know will come in handy in the devastated country.
I got to go to the airport to do on the spot interviews and watch the team members and their families say goodbye. This community has really rallied around efforts to aid Haiti. There are several local ties to ministries down there.
In just three weeks I have collected several outstanding clips that I can use to apply for future journalism and writing positions.
Thursday I got to go to Gatlinburg, TN to do an article on a building owned by the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The building is LEED certified (meaning environmentally friendly) and was awarded a gold status for this "greenness". The day was gorgeous and so was the building. It was wonderful to have the change to leave the office only to go to a place that was breathtakingly beautiful.
I am not looking forward to entering into my last week at the
paper. I have loved every second I've been here. I've grown to know and
love the Knoxville area and will have a very hard time leaving it.
