My second week at Spin was great! The week started off kind of slowly again but for the most part, I was incredibly busy all week.
On Tuesday, one of the online editors asked me to write a short news story for Spin.com. I was nervous at firs, since writing for a new outlet for the first time meant I had to adapt my writing style to theirs. I wrote a small story about the new album from a band called Dr. Dog (click to read). It was changed a bit from the original version I wrote, but that’s just part of the revision process and it helped me learn exactly how Spin wants things written. I don’t know if I’ll get more chances to write because the other interns have now started, but we’ll see!
I worked on one bigger project for the rest of the week. I can’t go into too much detail about it (because you’ll have to find out when the issue goes on sale!) but I have been doing a lot of research for Spin ’s 25th anniversary issue. It’s been a lot of work but I am so excited to see what these issues look like, knowing that I helped so much. We’re finishing up the March issue right now and then will soon start on the April and May issues. Since I got here in the middle of progress on the March issue, I can’t wait to see what it’s like when they begin a whole new issue.
I can’t believe that there are just two short weeks left of my internship! I wish I could stay at Spin longer so I could get to know my editors better but I am doing the best I can with the time I have! I’m still really enjoying it and loving the people I work with. They’ve really been great about teaching me the secrets to Spin (AND they’ve made great recommendations for where to go for lunch. There’s actually a street cart that sells burritos and one that sells cupcakes, which is pretty amazing). The editors have been great about making me feel like I’m part of the team.
Also, the weather in New York has warmed up a little bit, making the city much more pleasant! I plan to enjoy my last two weeks here as much as possible!
