We had our organizational meeting on Jan 4th at 3 pm. We talked briefly about Mexico in general and selected roommates. We were also informed about the kinds of clothes that we should pack for the trip. We are to meet at 3.30 am in front of South Residential Hall to depart for Charlotte Airport. On our way to Mexico City we had a layover at Dallas Airport, Texas. We finally reached Mexico City at 12 pm. We checked into our Hotel, Hotel Emporium and had lunch there. Then we headed to the Interactive Museum of Economics. It was a very entertaining and interactive way of learning basic economic principles like scarcity, purchasing power of money, buying and selling, etc. After a wonderful Mexican dinner at a restaurant, we went back to the hotel to end the day.

On 6th Jan, after breakfast at the hotel we received a tour of Mexico City. Then we went to the National Museum of Anthropology. It was a very interesting museum which had artifacts about different types of civilization and tribes like the Aztecs, Mayas, etc. After the museum we had an appointment at PEMEX with the officers of Investor Relations. They gave us an in-depth information of the company and its future plans. Entrance to PEMEX headquarter is limited to the public but thanks to Dr. Yoon, we got special privileges and were allowed in the PEMEX building. Back to back we then took cabs and headed back to the Museum of Anthropology to see the National Folkloric Ballet. I recommend everyone see that dance at least once in their life time!

The next morning on 7th Jan we checked out from the hotel and took a mini bus from Mexico City to Universidad De Las Americas Puebla (UDPAL) at 10 am. We reached the university at 1 pm and then had lunch at the university cafeteria. At 3 pm we had a brief orientation session and then after that a tour of the campus. Right after that, we had our first lecture at UDLAP on Women, Work and Companies Gender Issues with Mariane Marchand. We learned and talked about the famous Maquiladora and how it affected the economy of Mexico. We also talked about how certain stereotypes existed in the industry regarding male and female. After the class, we had free time and went out for dinner at 8 pm.

It was a week full of new adventures! I am looking forward to the rest of my time in Mexico!
