Basketball crushes Warren Wilson in first home game

The Salem College basketball team exploded past the Owls of Warren Wilson 78-21 in the first home game of the season. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) led the Spirits with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Spirits improve to 3-1 this season, while the Owls drop to 2-2.

Taylor wins first GSAC Basketball Player of the Week

Taylor had a huge weekend as the Spirits split two contests against Washington College and Hollins University last weekend. She averaged 13 points per game, 9 steals per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and two blocks per game on the hardwood, including Salem’s second-ever triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals in the win over Hollins.

Basketball cruises to win at Roanoke

Salem, VA-The Salem College basketball team opened up an early lead and never looked back in route to a 57-47 non-conference win at Roanoke College. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) had a monster night with a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. Salem improves to 1-2 overall, while Roanoke falls to 1-3.

This Week with Salem Basketball-Week 1

The Spirits kicked off their season at the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by William Peace University. Salem split their games this weekend. They fell to Washington College of Maryland on Friday 69-56. They bounced back on Saturday to take 3rd-place in the tournament with a 75-67 win against Hollins University. Satavia Taylor produced only the 2nd ever triple-double by a Salem basketball player in the win over Hollins. She had an impressive 12 points, 11 steals and 11 rebounds.

The Salem College basketball team rolled past Hollins University, 75-67, to pick up their first win of the young season. Salem claimed third-place in the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by William Peace with the win. For the second straight game, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) led the Spirits with 12 points. Salem improves to 1-1 this season, while Hollins drops to 0-2.

Soccer Earns National Academic Award for Second Straight Year

The Salem College soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 school year. This is the 2nd straight year the team has been honored with the award, which is acquired by having a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic school year. The Spirits obtained a team GPA of 3.13 last year.

Fall Review: 2012 Soccer Team

The Salem College soccer team reached great heights in 2012. The team posted the 3rd highest winning percentage in soccer history at .842, just behind the 2007 and 2010 soccer teams. The Spirits were 16-3-1 overall and 9-1 in the Great South. They brought home the first Great South Regular Season Championship in school history.

Fall Review: 2012 Volleyball Team

The 2012 edition of the Salem College volleyball team had a season of many firsts. The team went to the NCAA Tournament and won the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament for the 1st time. They also reached the .500 mark for winning percentage for the first time both overall (14-14) and in the conference (5-5).
