Volleyball Awarded Four GSAC All-Conference and One All-Freshmen

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced their 
2012
All-Conference award winners for volleyball for the 2012 season. The Salem Spirits received four All-Conference members and one All-Freshmen team member. Salem finished the regular season with a 12-13 overall record, with 12 wins breaking the previous school record for wins. They are heading into the Great South Tournament as the number three seed, and they will play Agnes Scott on Wednesday at 3:00.
Brittany Miller (Hays, NC), a senior libero, made the All-Conference team for the first time. Miller leads the Spirits with 35 service aces. She also is averaging 2.59 digs per set.
Zy Henderson (Spartanburg, SC), a sophomore defensive specialist, is playing volleyball for the first time this year and also made the Great South All-Conference team. She leads Salem with 219 total digs and 3.00 digs per set.
Roslyn Nixon (Wilson, NC), a sophomore outside hitter, also made the team for the first time. Nixon leads the Spirits with 177 total kills and 2.42 kills per set. She has 22 total blocks so far this season.
Michelle Morgan (Chattanooga, TN), a junior transfer, is a middle blocker for the Spirits and earned her first All-Conference honors. She has 22 blocks so far and leads the team with a .228 attack percentage.
Kelsey Defosse (Wichita Falls, TX), a first-year outside hitter, earned the Spirits only spot on the GSAC All-Freshmen team. She averages 1.11 kills per set.
After exclusive
voting by the league’s head coaches Covenant’s Chelsea Van Dyk laid
claim to both the Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors
after an outstanding season on the court. Heather Taylor, her
hardworking coach, completed a clean sweep of the top awards for the
Lady Scots by earning Coach of the Year honors as voted on by her peers.
Fourteen GSAC student-athletes landed on the All-Conference team while
seven first-year performers became members of the All-Freshman Team. The
entirety of both squads is listed below.
