<p><strong><img src="http://www.salem.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/past-seasons/2011/danawallheadshot.JPG/image_preview" alt="danawallheadshot" class="image-right" title="danawallheadshot" />Winston-Salem,
NC-</strong>The Salem College Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, is
pleased to announce that Dana Wall will become the third coach in the NCAA era
of the Salem Volleyball Program. Wall will replace Amanda Ziemba, who resigned in May to spend more time with her family.</p>
<p>Wall comes to Salem with over 3 decades
of experience as a player, instructor, and coach. She is currently the Amateur
Athletic Union (AAU) North Carolina State Chair and Director, and will be a delegate at this years AAU National Convention.</p>
<p>Wall’s coaching experience includes assisting at
the Division I level at Cal State Dominguez Hills. She also coached
club volleyball in California for many years at Seal Beach Volleyball Club and Fluid
Volleyball Club. She has several years of high school coaching experience,
which mostly recently includes The Elon School in Burlington, NC. She coached Elon
to a third Place finish in 2010 and a first place finish in 2011 in
the North Carolina Private School 1A State Championships.</p>
<p>Wall was a coach for "Team Nfinity" during
the summer of 2011, which finished in eighth at the European Global Challenge
in Croatia. The team was composed of local college players from Salem, Lees
McRae, and UNC-Greensboro. Wall has been taking teams to the European Challenge
since 2008 with the USA High Performance Program; she was the Beach Volleyball
Coordinator for USA HP in the Carolina Region for the last 2 years.</p>
<p>A San Diego native, she had a stellar playing career at San
Diego State University, where she was a middle blocker and the team was ranked
as high as fourth nationally in the NCAA Division I. She still holds the record
for block solos in a match with 8, and she is in the top 5 at SDSU for career
block solos and season block solos. As a player, she has multiple US Open National
Championships and an AAU National Championship under her belt. She has been a
US Open First Team All-American five times.&nbsp;
She is a former contract player for the Women's Professional Beach
Volleyball Association (WPVA).</p>
<p>Wall is IMPACT certified through USA
Volleyball for both Beach and Indoor volleyball. She is currently a member of the
AAU, USA Volleyball and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.</p>

<p><strong><img src="http://www.salem.edu/images/athletics/soccer/copy_of_stephhighres.jpg/image_preview" alt="stephhubs" class="image-right" title="stephhubs" />Winston-Salem, NC-</strong>The Salem College Athletic Department celebrated the 2011-2012 athletic year last night in Bryant Hall. Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, presided over the festivities. Salem Academy and College President Dr. Susan Pauly and <span id=":1o4" dir="ltr">Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of the College Susan Calovini were special guest speakers.</span></p>
<p><span id=":1o4" dir="ltr">Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) was honored as the Anne Woodward Student-Athlete of the Year for her performance on the soccer field. She also became the first ever student-athlete from Salem to be honored as an all-south region team member.</span></p>
<p><span id=":1o4" dir="ltr">Amy Allison (Geneva, OH) was honored with the Nann Tilley Service Award for her participation in tennis and soccer. Samantha Hubbard (Sanford, NC) was selected as the Jess Byrd Scholar-Athlete winner for her four years on the soccer field. Angela Reavis (Boonville, NC), a tennis player, earned the Scholar Athlete of the Year for having the highest grade point average of all Salem student-athletes. Allison, Samantha Hubbard, and Lauren Wisen (Madison, OH) were honored as four-year letter winners.</span></p>
<p><span id=":1o4" dir="ltr">All 7 teams honored 2 student-athletes with team awards. <p><strong><img src="http://www.salem.edu/images/athletics/volleyball/brittanistewarthits.jpg/image_preview" alt="brittanistewarthits" class="image-right" title="brittanistewarthits" />Decatur, GA-</strong>Just a day prior to the Great South Athletic Conference 
Volleyball Conference Championship Tournament, the GSAC is pleased to 
announce this year's conference award winners.The honorees will be given
 their awards this weekend during the conference tournament.</p>
<p>Salem College was awarded with one member on the GSAC All-Conference Team, one to the All-Freshman Team, and four to the All-Academic Team. Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) was honored as an all-conference team member. Brittani Stewart (Mocksville, NC) was selected to the all-freshman team. The four Salem volleyball members selected to the all-academic team were: Emily Devane (Lillington, NC), Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC), Katie O'Leary (Seldova, AK), an Hart Wagner (Winston-Salem, NC).<br /></p>
<p>Kristin Findley of Maryville won her second straight Player of the 
Year honors this season for her spectacular play throughout the season. 
Findley finished the regular season in the top three on the GSAC 
leaderboard in several major categories including hitting percentage 
(.262) and kills per game (3.84).</p>
<p>Freshman Jennifer Opper was given Freshman of the Year for the 2011 
season. As a middle blocker, Opper averaged 0.76 blocks per set with 66 
total solo and assisted blocks on the season. Teammate Paige Eslinger 
nabbed her second straight Libero of the Year award despite missing six 
games during the season. Eslinger finished the season leading the 
conference in digs with an average of 6.27 per set.</p>
<p>LaGrange head coach Julie Moses was given the honor of Coach of the 
Year. Moses helped her squad to a 15-11 overall record and 5-3 in the 
conference.</p>

<p>The Spirits return to the road on the 25th when they travel to take on North Carolina Wesleyan at 7:00.</p>

Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) and Hart&nbsp;Wagner (Winston-Salem, NC) each had 6 kills for the Spirits. Salem falls to 3-21 and Greensboro improves to 8-19.</p>
<p>Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) led the Spirits with 10 set assists. Roppolo led the Spirits with 4 service aces, and Brittany Miller (Hays, NC) led the team with 10 digs.</p>
<p>The Spirits return to action at home this weekend in two very important Great South matches against Huntingdon and Wesleyan on Saturday.</p>

<p><strong>Decatur, GA-</strong>The Salem College volleyball team lost two Great South conference matches yesterday in Georgia. The Spirits lost to Spelman in the morning match, and to Agnes Scott in the afternoon match (20-25, 25-19, 17-25, 22-25). The two losses drop Salem to 0-5 in the Great South and to 3-20 overall.</p>
<p>In the match against Agnes Scott, Brittani Stewart (Mocksville, NC) led the Spirits with 10 kills and 5 blocks. Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) had 9 kills and led the Spirits with 14 digs. Emily Devane (Lillington, NC) and Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) each had 15 set assists.</p>
<p>The Spirits return home to host Greensboro College on October 18th at 7:00.</p>
