Volleyball Storms to Great South Championship Title

The Salem College volleyball team used the momentum from a dramatic comeback in the semifinals to upset top-seeded Huntingdon and win their first-ever Great South Championship. The Spirits were down 0-2 to Agnes Scott in the semifinal before they stormed back to defeat them 3-2. They went on to roll by the #1 seed Hawks of Huntingdon 3-1 in the championship match. They will now wait for the NCAA Division III brackets to see who they play in the NCAA Tournament with their automatic bid.

Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC) was named the tournament most valuable player. The setter had an impressive 41 set assists in the championship game. Michelle Morgan (Chattanooga, TN) had 16 kills and Roslyn Nixon (Wilson, NC) had 13 kills against the Hawks. Brittany Miller (Hays, NC) led the team with 8 digs.

The Spirits earned their 14th win and improve to 14-13, which is adds onto their school volleyball record for wins in a season.
