Roppolo and Stewart awarded with GSAC End of the Year Honors

Just a day prior to the Great South Athletic Conference Volleyball Conference Championship Tournament, the GSAC is pleased to announce this year's conference award winners.The honorees will be given their awards this weekend during the conference tournament.

brittanistewarthitsDecatur, GA-Just a day prior to the Great South Athletic Conference Volleyball Conference Championship Tournament, the GSAC is pleased to announce this year's conference award winners.The honorees will be given their awards this weekend during the conference tournament.

Salem College was awarded with one member on the GSAC All-Conference Team, one to the All-Freshman Team, and four to the All-Academic Team. Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL) was honored as an all-conference team member. Brittani Stewart (Mocksville, NC) was selected to the all-freshman team. The four Salem volleyball members selected to the all-academic team were: Emily Devane (Lillington, NC), Chelsea Jones (Glade Valley, NC), Katie O'Leary (Seldova, AK), an Hart Wagner (Winston-Salem, NC).

Kristin Findley of Maryville won her second straight Player of the Year honors this season for her spectacular play throughout the season. Findley finished the regular season in the top three on the GSAC leaderboard in several major categories including hitting percentage (.262) and kills per game (3.84).

Freshman Jennifer Opper was given Freshman of the Year for the 2011 season. As a middle blocker, Opper averaged 0.76 blocks per set with 66 total solo and assisted blocks on the season. Teammate Paige Eslinger nabbed her second straight Libero of the Year award despite missing six games during the season. Eslinger finished the season leading the conference in digs with an average of 6.27 per set.

LaGrange head coach Julie Moses was given the honor of Coach of the Year. Moses helped her squad to a 15-11 overall record and 5-3 in the conference.
