Currituck High's Newbern commits to play volleyball at Salem

The Salem College volleyball team is excited to announce that Olivia Newbern has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall.

olivianewbernvollBarco, NC-The Salem College volleyball team is excited to announce that Olivia Newbern has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall. Newbern played ball as both an outside and middle hitter at Currituck High School in Barco, NC. The Salem volleyball team is coming off a Great South Tournament Championship in 2012.

Newbern was a three-year member of the varsity team at Currituck. She was selected as a team captain, and she made the all-conference team this past year. She also has been honored with a coach's award for her team, and she led the team in kill percentage. Currituck made the NC 3A State playoffs when Newbern was a sophomore and senior.

Newbern played club volleyball for the Camden Volleyball Club. Her under-18 team finished in fifth in the state of North Carolina this past year. She has been a member of the youth group at Providence Baptist Church.

Salem College is a NCAA Division III institution located in Winston-Salem, NC. Salem is the oldest educational institution for women in the United States, and was founded in 1772. The institution boasts a proud history of fostering independence for women.
