Verdi breaks two records at CNU Meet

Newport News, VA-The Salem College track and field team competed at the Christopher Newport University (CNU) Invitational this weekend in Virginia. Stephanie Verdi (High Point, NC) won the 10,000 meter race, and broke Salem records in that race and the 5000 meter run.
Head Coach Jamie Williams said, "We had a great weekend at CNU.This meet had two of the top DIII programs in country, as well as several of the nations top junior colleges."
Verdi won the 10,000 meter with a time of 40:47, breaking her own Salem College record. She finished 4th in the 5000 meter race with a time of 19:31.15, which also broke her existing Salem College record. Williams said, "Stephanie led the race from start to finish holding off a strong runner from Spartanburg Methodist."
Heather Huffman (Winston-Salem, NC) finished second in the 100 meter and had her second best time (13.15) of the season on a rainy and windy track. Michelle Lawler (Gibsonville, NC) and Megan Menard (Hooksett, NH) had strong races in the 400 meter and 800 meter.
"Michelle and Meghan ran their collegiate personal records, while several others had season personal records," said Coach Williams.
The Spirits will conclude their 2014 campaign at the Radford Invitational this weekend.
