April 05, 2014

distancemedleyWofford, SC-The Salem College track & field team had a strong performance at the Wofford Invitational. Competing against mainly NCAA Division I and Division II teams, the Spirits were able to hold their own. The distance medley relay shattered the team record from last year by 16 seconds.
The distance medley relay consisted of Natali Olveda (Salinas, CA), Heather Huffman (Winston-Salem, NC), Victoria Chaffers (Deltona, FL), and Stephanie Verdi (High Point, NC). They finished in 14:16.96, which was good enough for 8th place.
"We had a good meet yesterday at the Wofford Invitational-Terrier Relays," said Head Coach Jamie Williams. "We were the only DIII team participating in a field of Mostly DII and a few DI schools."
Verdi was the top individual finisher for Salem. She finished 11th of 24 in the 5,000 meter race. Huffman was 19th of 34 in the 100 meter race.
The Spirits will return to the track this weekend at the NC A&T Aggie Invite in Greensboro.
