Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College tennis team is getting ready to kick-off their angelatennis2014 season this month. They begin play on the road at Emory & Henry in Virginia on February 22nd. Head Coach Kevin Fleck will begin his first season leading the Salem tennis program.

"I am very excited about my first year with the Salem College Tennis program," said Coach Fleck. "The team has pulled together and is taking the challenge of the upcoming season head on. I am very pleased with the progress thus far and looking to continually build upon our improvement as a team."

Coach Fleck is going to look to Andrea Akers (Pinnacle, NC) and Angela Reavis (Boonville, NC) to lead the team. "Andrea and Angela return for the 2014 season, adding another layer of experience and talent to the program. Their leadership qualities and work ethic will pave the way for success in the upcoming season. Both players are primed to have an excellent year," said Coach Fleck. Akers is a sophomore that played most of last season at the number one position. Reavis is a senior that was the number two player last year.

The team will also add some valuable new players this season, Ashley Koehler (Huntersville, NC) and Leia Pruitt (Wilkesboro, NC). Coach Fleck said, "Ashley and Leia are the newest members to the tennis team.  We are very happy to have them add a new level of excitement and energy to the program. Ashley may be a first year in college, but she is not a first year when it comes to performance and experience. She will be a huge asset on the singles and doubles court. Leia is an exceptional athlete that will provide support and enthusiasm to our doubles teams."

The team will play two double-headers with Great South conference rival Wesleyan College, which will be four of the most important matches of the season. They will also take-on defending GSAC Champion, Agnes Scott, at home and on the road.

"I am blessed to have such a great group of young women to work with. We have high hopes and expectations that we will have an outstanding year.  GO SPIRITS!" said Coach Fleck.
