Tennis set to celebrate two seniors

April 11, 2014

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College tennis team will celebrate two seniors tomorrow in their home match against Wesleyan College. Angela Reavis (Boonville, NC) and Ona James (Baltimore, MD) have helped lead the tennis team to a 7-4 overall record and 2-0 in the Great South.

James is an exercise science major. She is currently 1-0 in singles play and 1-3 in doubles play so far this season.

Head Coach Kevin Fleck said, "Ona has shown incredible dedication and support to the tennis team and all of Salem College athletics during her college career. Her natural poise and confidence is felt by all who are in her presence. She has worked extremely hard over the years and has helped lead the team by being a great example for others. I am very proud of the way she has persevered through the challenges of being a student athlete and has finished with a successful senior year. We are sad that this is Ona's final season on the tennis team, but we are excited for her as she moves on to greater achievements"

Reavis is a double major in religion and art history. She is a two-time winner of the athletic department's highest grade point average. She is currently 4-4 in singles play and 4-4 in doubles play.

Fleck said, "Angela is a natural born leader and has been the backbone of the tennis team.  She has kept an exceptionally high standard for the team as well as herself.  Her talent and hard work have been a priceless asset during her college career.  I am proud of the success that Angela has achieved for herself in both singles and doubles this season.  She has a great understanding of what it takes to attain excellence.  There will be a noticeable void to fill once Angela leaves, but wherever she ends up will have gained from our loss"
