Tennis splits first two GSAC matches

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College tennis team split its first two Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) tennis matches this past weekend. Salem won easily on Saturday against Georgia Wesleyan (9-0). Maryville College came in on Sunday and beat the Spirits (7-2). Salem is now 3-2 overall, and 1-1 in the GSAC.
Rukhsona Usmanova (Durham, NC) continued her hot play at the number one singles spot on Saturday with a convincing victory over Hannah Doan (6-0, 6-0). She also teamed with Katherine Elliott (Edenton, NC) to defeat Doan and Kellie Cauley in number one doubles (8-0). Elliott defeated Cauley in number two singles play (6-0, 6-1).
Usmanova lost her first singles match of the season on Sunday against Morgan Douglas (4-6, 7-6, 4-6). Usmanova and Elliott also lost their first doubles match against Douglas and Karen Rybolt (8-2). Amy Allison (Geneva, OH) won both of her singles matches this weekend for the Spirits.
Salem returns to action on March 17th when they travel to Averett.
