<p><strong><img src="http://www.salem.edu/athletics/varsity/softball/past-seasons/2010-2011/tyquillagraham.jpg/image_preview" alt="tyquillasigns" class="image-right image-inline" title="tyquillasigns" />Winston-Salem, NC-</strong>The Salem College softball program
 is pleased to announce that TyQuilla Graham&nbsp; has committed to attend 
Salem this fall. Graham played four years for Coach Thurman Pate, Coach Lisa Smith, and Coach Mishella Craine at South Lenoir High School and she is from Pink Hill, North Carolina. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule 
including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 
school year.</p>
<p>Graham was a second team all-conference selection in 2008-2009. She also helped her team qualify for states in 2008 and 2010. Graham played club softball for the East Carolina Shockers for Coach Jody Turner, Coach Pate, and Coach Earl Keith for four years. She also enjoys to play basketball and volleyball.</p>

 is excited to announce that Shelby Drummonds has committed to attend Salem this fall. Drummonds was a four-year&nbsp;varsity starter. She played her freshman and sophomore seasons for Coach Sara Novak at Mantanzas High School in Palm Coast, FL. She played her last two years for Coach Brian Vannoy and Coach Brad Issacs at Watauga High School in Boone, NC. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule 
including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 
school year.</p>
<p>Drummonds was selected to the all-conference first-team her sophomore, junior, and senior year and to the second-team as a freshman. She was her team's most valuable player as a sophomore and junior and was also selected to the all-district and all-state team as a junior.</p>
<p>Drummonds played club softball for Coach Jerry Moretz and Coach Shane Johnson from 2010-2011 in the NC area, and played four years of club for the Cyclones Travel Club. She was also a two-year member of the swim team at Watauga.</p>
<p>She has been&nbsp;involved in several extracurricular and academic 
activities including winning the Knowledge Award in ninth grade and being on the honor roll all four years. She was also on the steel band and in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Drummonds is the daughter of Kelly and Jeff Drummonds.</p>

 is pleased to announce that Kayla Kennedy has committed to attend Salem 
next fall. Kennedy was a five-year&nbsp;varsity member&nbsp;for Coach Roger Longwell and Coach Jerry Forbis, Jr. at Wayne Christian High School in Goldsboro, NC. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule 
including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 
school year.</p>
<p>Kennedy received News-Argus All-Area Honorable Mention recognition in 2010. She was also selected as a CCC Conference All-Tournament Team member in 2009 and 2010, and received the Coach's Award the same years. She was a News-Argus All-Area Second Team selection in 2009. Kennedy was a member of the NCISAA State Softball Championship team in 2007 and 2008 at Wayne Christian.</p>
<p>Kennedy played ten years of club softball. She most recently played for Coach Curt Hinton for the Stingerz Elite in 2011, and for Coach Greg Pittman with the Wayne County Blue Breeze in 2009-2010.</p>
<p>She has been&nbsp;involved in several extracurricular and academic 
activities at Wayne Christian. Kennedy received an achievement award at WCHS, and received the ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student Award. She is the daughter of Debbie and Curtis Kennedy.</p>

Department celebrated an excellent 2010-2011 school year with the 2011 Salem
College Athletic Awards Ceremony in a packed Club Dining Room. The ceremony
highlighted three department awards, NC All-State Awards, Great South Athletic
Conference (GSAC) awards, and team awards and letter winners. The three
department awards are voted on by the entire athletic department at Salem.</p>
<p>Stephanie
Hubbard (Sanford, NC) was presented with the Anne Woodward Athlete of the Year
Award, which is given to a Salem College athlete who has achieved team and individual
greatness during the 2010-2011 year.&nbsp;Hubbard was a three-sport athlete
this year. She was on the GSAC All-Conference First Team and GSAC All-Conference
Freshman Team for soccer, which finished with a 15-3 record and second in the
GSAC regular season. She was the anchor of a soccer defense and scored an
impressive 5 goals as a defender to help the team finish third in NCAA Division
III in goals per game. She finished tied for second on the basketball team for
most blocks and most steals.&nbsp; Hubbard was
also consistently the second best 800 runner on the track team this spring.</p>
<p>Kim
Wisen (Madison, OH) was awarded with the Jess Byrd Scholar-Athlete Award, which
is presented to a graduating senior who for four years has attained a strong
academic record and exhibited qualities of sportsmanship, athletic ability and
leadership. Wisen was a dual sport athlete for four years. She has been a
two-time soccer captain, and is second in career assists. She also finished
this tennis season with a 5-5 singles record and a 5-5 doubles record and was a
leader on the team. She was selected to the GSAC All-Academic Team for both
soccer and tennis this year.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.salem.edu/athletics/varsity/softball/past-seasons/2010-2011/athleticceremonygsac.jpg/image_preview" alt="athleticbanquetgsac" class="image-right image-inline" title="athleticbanquetgsac" />Logan
Rost (Lawrenceburg, TN) was awarded as the Scholar Athlete of the Year, which
is presented to the student-athlete letter winner that is a sophomore, junior,
or senior that has the best cumulative grade point average and is a contributing
member of their sport. She has competed for the soccer team for two seasons as
a midfielder and one season on the track team.</p>
<p>Two
Salem student-athletes were honored with North Carolina Collegiate Sports
Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Awards this year. Shamaz Denerson
(Atlanta, GA) was honored as a NCCSIA All-State College Division Second Team
winner for basketball. Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) was selected to the NCCSIA
All-State College Division First-Team for soccer.</p>
<p>The
award ceremony also highlighted this year’s winners of GSAC awards. Each athletic
team also gave two team awards at the ceremony. The following are the winners

Lindsey Boening (Clemmons, NC) pitched all seven innings for the Spirits in a winning effort. Salem is playing a limited schedule this spring, before they enter a full Great South Athletic Conference schedule in 2012.</p>
<p>Boening threw 5 strikeouts and only allowed 3 earned runs and 1 walk in the win. Samantha Smith (Westfield, NC) was hot from the plate going 3 for 4 with 3 runs. Amanda Orsino (Sauquoit, NY) and Kaitlyn Horner (Elkhart, IN) each went 2 for 4 for the Spirits, and Gabrielle Vizcaino (Wake Forest, NC) went 2 for 3.</p>
<p>Salem is also playing a scrimmage with Winston-Salem State University.</p>

The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 school year.</p>
<p>Settles was selected as the RCHS Wendy's Heisman Female Athlete of the Year this year. She was selected as an all-conference member in 9th and 10th grades, and as a honorable mention 2A all-area selection those two years. She was also her team's most valuable player twice.</p>
<p>Settles plays club softball for Coach Don Settles, Coach Keith Huckabee, and Coach Jeff Herrington for the Proehlific Power. She also played for the Blueridge Bombers, where she was their defensive player of the year.</p>
<p>She has been&nbsp;involved in several extracurricular and academic activities at RCHS.&nbsp;She has been on the honor roll and&nbsp;the Dream Team.&nbsp;Settles is in the Future Teachers of America and the Interact Club.&nbsp;She is the daughter of Arleen and Don Settles.</p>

Lewis was a four-year starter for Coach Meegan Wilmot and Coach Jeremy Ossler at Atlantic High School
in Port Orange, FL. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule
including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 school
year.</p>
<p>Lewis was an all-conference second team selection as a sophomore and junior, and honorable mention all-conference as a freshman at Atlantic. She was also all-area honorable mention twice. Lewis won Atlantic's Golden Glove Award as a junior, and she helped the team become district runners-up that year. She also played club softball for the 2010 Lady Renegades Black, which was coached by Norm Perry.</p>
<p>She has been very involved in academic and extracurricular activities while at Atlantic. She has been on the honor roll and been named as a scholar-athlete. Lewis has been on the Academy of Law and Government, and on the Teen Court at Atlantic. She is the daughter of Melinda Sanford and Kevin Lewis.</p>

is excited to announce that Faith Turner committed to attend Salem next

 



fall. Turner played for Coach Lisa Smith and Thurman Pate at South Lenoir High School in North Carolina. The Spirits softball team 

will begin a full schedule including Great South Athletic Conference 

play during the 2011-2012 school year.</p>
<p>Turner was the Kinston Press All-Area High School Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year in 2009-2010. She was also First Team All-State last year, and on the all-region team. Turner helped lead her team to the NC East Region runner-ups and third in the state in 2010. She plays club 
softball for Coach Jody Turner with the EC Shockers.</p>
<p>Turner is an excellent student at South Lenoir.
 She has been a member of the A/B Honor Roll. She was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, student council, and prom committee. She is the 

daughter of Stephanie and Jody Turner.</p>

is excited to announce that Amber Bass committed to attend Salem next
 

fall. Bass played for Coach Joel Clarke at Hobbton High School in Clinton, NC. The Spirits softball team 
will begin a full schedule including Great South Athletic Conference 
play during the 2011-2012 school year.</p>
<p>Bass was the 2010 Sampson County Co-Player of the Year. She was a first team all-conference selection as a junior, and a second team all-conference member as a sophomore. Bass also competed for the 2010 Powerade State Games team, which earned a silver medal. Bass plays club softball for Coach Keith Edgerton with the Carolina Hurricanes Elite 2010.</p>
<p>She is also highly involved in academics and school clubs at Hobbton. Bass is a member of the Beta Club and also in the top ten of her class. She is the Vice President for the FBLA, and she won a Character Word of Mouth Award for Responsibility and Sportsmanship. She is the 
daughter of Joy and Sherrill Bass.</p>

is excited to announce that Reagan Hinton committed to attend Salem next 
fall. Hinton played for Coach Roger Longwell and Coach Jerry Forbes at Wayne Christian High School in Goldsboro, NC. The Spirits softball team will begin a full schedule including Great South Athletic Conference play during the 2011-2012 school year.</p>
<p>Hinton is in her fourth year playing on the varsity team at Wayne Christian. She was named to the all-conference team in 9th and 11th grade, and to the North Carolina All-State team in 9th and 10th grade. The Wayne Christian team won the North Carolina State Championship game in 2007 and 2008.</p>
<p>Hinton played club softball for Coach Curt Hinton and Coach Wayne Stallings for both the Hurricanes and the Stingerz Elite. The Hurricanes were state champions in 2008, and Super World Series runners-up in 2009.</p>
<p>She is also highly involved in academics at Wayne Christian. Hinton has been in the National Honor Society from 10th-12th grade, and she is currently the Student Government Association Vice President. She is the daughter of Robin and Curt Hinton.</p>
