Softball splits pair of games in Raleigh

The Salem College softball team split two close non-conference games today at Meredith College. The Spirits defeated McDaniel (5-4) and they dropped a game a game to Hood (3-2). Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) led the Spirits with 4 hits and 4 runs batted in for the day. Salem improves their record to 3-5, while Hood stands at 1-1 and McDaniel drops to 0-2.

alliewatkinspitchRaleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team split two close non-conference games today at Meredith College. The Spirits defeated McDaniel (5-4) and they dropped a game to Hood (3-2). Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) led the Spirits with 4 hits and 4 runs batted in for the day. Salem improves their record to 3-5, while Hood stands at 1-1 and McDaniel drops to 0-2.

Watkins pitched both games for Salem. She held McDaniel to 6 hits and Hood to 7, and she only gave up 7 runs in 14-innings pitched. 

In the McDaniel game, the Spirits trailed early. They were behind 4-2 going into the bottom of the 4th, when their bats came alive and they had a 3-run inning. Watkins held on over the next 3 innings to allow no more runs for the win. In the Hood game, the Spirits controlled the game going into the bottom of the 7th, before Hood got a 2 runs for the win.

Karson Chapman (Lewisville, NC) scored 3 runs to lead the Spirits today. Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) had 4 hits and 3 runs. Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) also finished the day with 4 hits.
