Softball set to host Great South Tournament

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team is set to host the Great South Softball Tournament for the first time in school history.The Spirits head into the tournament as the number four seed. Salem finished as the third-place team in the GSAC regular season after a 9-7 conference record. They drop to the fourth seed with the additions of Finlandia, Pine Manor, and Trinity. The winner of the double-elimination tournament will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Spirits will take on the fifth-seeded Gators of Pine Manor from Chestnut Hill, MA in the first-round tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. The winner will take on the top-seeded Hawks of Huntingdon tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The loser will move to the loser's bracket and will play an elimination game with the loser of game five on Saturday. Pine Manor is currently 12-8 overall. Kaylyn Delgado and Chardonai Rose come into the game leading the Gators with a .508 batting average.
Salem comes into the tournament with a 7-3 record in their last ten games. They are lead by Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) who has a team-high batting average of .429. Two-time GSAC Player of the week, Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC), comes into the game with a team-high six home runs and 31 runs batted in.
