Softball loses two against NC Wesleyan

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team lost two games today against North Carolina Wesleyan. The 1st game was a pitching dual that the Spirits lost 2-1, and the 2nd game the Bishops stopped a Salem comeback to win 10-5. The Spirits fall to 2-4, and the Bishops improve to 2-0.
Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) pitched a gem in the 1st game only giving up two runs on a 7th-inning home run by the Bishops. The Spirits had the lead from the 1st through the 7th inning after Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) knocked in Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL). Garner went 3 for 3 in the game and Watkins went 2 for 3.
In the 2nd game, Wesleyan jumped out to a 6-0 lead, before the Spirits made it interesting in the last three innings. The Spirits scattered 11 hits in the game. Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) went 2 for 4, while both Lexi Perez (Mount Ulla, NC) and Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) each had 2 hits.
Salem will return to action this weekend as they head to Raleigh for a tournament hosted by Meredith. They play their 1st of four games on Saturday at 9:00 am against Wilson College.
