Softball drops a pair at Averett

The Salem College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference road games today at Averett. The Spirits dropped both games of the doubleheader 11-3. Kristi Morton (Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits with 3 hits on the day. Salem falls to 2-2 overall, and Averett improves to 3-1.

Danville. VA-The Salem College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference road games today at Averett. The Spirits dropped both games of the doubleheader 11-3. Kristi Morton (Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits with 3 hits on the day. Salem falls to 2-2 overall, and Averett improves to 3-1.

Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) pitched both games for the Spirits and her record fell to 2-2. In game one, Salem fell behind 4-0 early in the 1st. They would cut the lead to 7-3 in the 5th, but the Cougars closed the game out in the bottom of the 6th with 4 runs. In game two, Averett started fast again as they opened a 10-0 lead. The Spirits scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th, but they couldn't get any closer.

Morton finished with 3 runs batted in for the day. Karson Chapman (Lewisville, NC) and Kierston Garner (Danbury, NC) each had 2 hits. Sidney Davidson (Marion, NC) led the Spirits with 7 putouts in the two games. Watkins and Morton each had a double today.

The Spirits open up their home schedule as they host North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday.
