Softball crushes Wesleyan in GSAC doubleheader

The Salem College softball team put on a scoring clinic on the road against Wesleyan in a Great South doubleheader. The Spirits won the 1st game 13-1 in 5 innings, and cruised to a 16-7 game 2 victory.

kaylacatchesMacon, GA-The Salem College softball team put on a scoring clinic on the road against Wesleyan in a Great South doubleheader. The Spirits won the 1st game 13-1 in 5 innings, and cruised to a 16-7 game 2 victory. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) and Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) each had 4 hits to lead the Spirits. Salem improves to 7-5 in the GSAC and 10-18 overall, while the Pioneers drop to 0-12 and 0-28 overall.

Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) picked up the win on the mound in game 1.  She combined with Morton to only allow 1 run and 2 hits. Morton earned the win in game 2. The Spirits jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the 1st 3 innings of game 1, and to a 9-1 advantage in the 1st inning of game 2. 

Kennedy smacked a home run in both games. She led the team with 4 runs batted in. Kennedy and Karson Chapman (Lewisville, NC) each led the Spirits with 6 runs for the day. 

The Spirits conclude regular season play next weekend as they host Huntingdon and Wesleyan in conference play.
