Softball closes out regular season by easily sweeping Wesleyan

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team closed out the regular season and the career of senior Amber Miller (Mebane, NC) by easily sweeping Wesleyan in conference play. The Spirits cruised to a 31-0 victory in game 1 and a 22-0 victory in game 2. Miller was 3 for 6 on the day with 4 runs, 3 runs batted in, and 1 stolen base. The Spirits conclude Great South play with a 9-7 conference record and a 12-20 overall record.
The team also celebrated team manager, Regina Diggs, who is also a senior. Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) was on the mound in game 1 to earn the win. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) earned the win in game 2. Kayla Kennedy (Garner, NC) and Lexi Perez (Mount Ulla, NC) also saw time on the mound in the wins.
Watkins and Perez each had 4 hits on the day to lead the Spirits. Kennedy scored an impressive 9 runs today. Watkins scored 7 runs and Morton and Karson Chapman (Lewisville, NC) each scored 6 runs. Breanna Griffin (Millers Creek, NC) crossed the plate 5 times for the Spirits.
Watkins led the Spirits with 8 runs batted in, while Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) finished with 7. Perez had 6 runs batted in. Kennedy had an in-the-park home run in the first game, and Watkins finished with 2 triples.
The Spirits will now prepare to host the Great South Conference Championships next weekend. They will be the number 4 seed and will play the 5 seed on Friday.
