Anna Trakas selected to NCCSIA College Division All-State Women's Soccer Team
Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) of Salem College was one of eleven student-athletes representing eight institutions that were selected to the eighth annual North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State women’s soccer team. Trakas, a first-year midfielder, was one of only two NCAA Division III players selected to the team, while the other nine members represented NCAA Division II institutions.
Featured Athlete of the Month-Kim Wisen
Kim finished her soccer career at Salem by starting in all 71 games of her four year career as a midfielder. She has the second most assists (16) in Salem College soccer history, and she is fourth in all-time points (40). Kim was instrumental in helping Salem to a 15-3 record this season, and the team has gone 49-19-3 over her career.
Soccer has five players awarded to GSAC All-Conference and four to GSAC All-Freshman teams
The Salem College soccer team was well represented on the Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) All-Conference, All-Freshman, and All-Academic teams that were selected this week. The Spirits finished the season with a 15-3 record, and lost in the GSAC semifinals. Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT), Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC), Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC), Sabrina Thiel (Hillsboro, OH), and Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) were all selected to the GSAC All-Conference team. Hubbard, Saganich and Trakas were joined by MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) on the All-Freshman team.
Soccer loses in very close GSAC semifinal match
The Salem College soccer team lost 1-0 to Piedmont College in the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals hosted by Piedmont College. Piedmont scored the only goal of the match in the 55th minute. Salem finishes their season with a school record 15-3 record, and with a second place GSAC regular season finish.
Soccer set for GSAC semifinals ranked in the top 25 in all NCAA national team statistics
The Salem College soccer team will travel to Demorest, GA this weekend for the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament as the two seed. Salem will play the tournament host, Piedmont College, on November 5th at 6:45 in the second semifinals match. Salem finished the regular season with a school record 15-2 overall record, and 6-1 in the GSAC.
Soccer program and Callahan reach milestone 50th NCAA win at Mountain State
On a very cold night, the Salem College soccer team broke the school's single regular season victory record with a 2-0 road win at Mountain State. Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) scored the game-winning goal in her last regular season match. Salem improves to 15-2 overall this season, and the 15 wins is a new regular season record.
Soccer scores with thirty seconds left against Ferrum to move to 14-2
The Salem College soccer team defeated Ferrum College 2-1 tonight on a very rainy field. Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) scored with thirty seconds left to give the Spirits an exciting win. Salem moves to 14-2 overall on the season.
Soccer earns first round bye with 11-0 win at Wesleyan
The Salem College soccer team defeated Georgia Wesleyan 11-0 on the road in a Great South match. Salem clinched a second place finish in the Great South with the victory, and they also earned a bye into the semifinals. Salem will play in the second semifinal game hosted by Piedmont on November 5th at 6:45 pm. The Spirits improve to 13-2 overall and to 6-1 in the GSAC.
Soccer wins at Spelman to improve to 12-2
The Salem College soccer team defeated Spelman 3-2 today on the road in a Great South match. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored two goals off of corner kicks in the win. Salem improves to 12-2 with the win and 5-1 in the conference.
