Soccer defeats Guilford 4-1 in Raleigh

The Salem College soccer team had two goals from MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, NC), as they cruised to a 4-1 victory against Guilford.

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College soccer team had two goals from MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, NC), as they cruised to a 4-1 victory against Guilford. Schmidt scored in the 22nd and 52nd minutes in the win. Salem improves to 2-0 this season.

Schmidt's first goal was assisted by Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ). Morgan Canepa (Elko, NV) scored her first collegiate goal in the 39th minute on a corner kick by Bethany Kent (Manassas, VA). Salem went into the break with a 2-0 advantage. The Spirits came out of the break on fire, with two goals in the first 6:24 of the second half. Bundy scored with an assist from Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC), and Schmidt's last goal was assisted again by Bundy.

Guilford pulled one back in the 74th minute. Kenzie Rathe (Cloquet, MN) earned her first win in goal for Salem. The Spirits had 19 shots, including 17 on goal to only 5 shots by Guilford. 

Salem returns to action tomorrow at Meredith at 2:15.
